Summary

One feature of the Cradlepoint IBR11X0 and AER3100 product line is an internal hardware temperature sensor. This temperature sensor allows NCOS to monitor the router's internal temperature, as well as monitoring the modem's temperature. This functionality provides several options that can greatly assist the management of Cradlepoint devices in especially hot or cold environments.

Using Cradlepoint's temperature control functionality requires a device that includes a hardware temperature sensor. At the time of this writing (May 2015) the Cradlepoint COR IBR1100 and IBR1150 and AER3100 devices include this feature. The temperature sensor is part of the router's hardware and is always enabled.

Devices that include a temperature sensor will indicate on the DASHBOARD, the router's current temperature (in Celsius) as well as the high and low temperatures observed over the previous 24 hours.

If the router exceeds 80 degrees Celsius, the router will automatically shut down wireless (WiFi) functionality to attempt to bring the router back within threshold. If the router remains above the threshold, then the cellular modem will also be temporarily disabled. After the router's temperature has decreased to 78 degrees Celsius, the router will re-enable the cellular and WiFi radios again.

Under no circumstance will the temperature sensor power the router off!

The temperature of the router and the modem and alert configuration options can be accessed at SYSTEM > Administration > Temperature.
